Artist's Comments

A still life of my Faceless Sage sculpture with my acrylic brushes, my weapons stand, and some early Katakana brushings.

Charcoal using reductive method and cante crayon to enhance the blacks.

I had developed the figure of the "Faceless Sage" to help give an embodiment to what I stand for. You might say; "the Universe views all people as straw dogs," which partially covers it.

The Faceless Sage is me and yet it is you. Because he has a figure and obvious demeanor, he stands for obvious traits; such as stability of mind, body and spirit, relaxation and peace in being. His cloths are often much like those of a man of humble living.

The lack of a face is not due to merely the idea that he has none, but that it has no one identity.

He embodies the meaning of the term "namaste" (The light in me sees the light in you.") This being is not outside of you, like many figures may imply, but he is witihin you. Even the idea of it being a "he" is only a title used for convenience while speaking.

nice charcoal piece..

i have to ask.. what's with all the faceless sages ? are they something you came up with or some older form of japanese art?

is it about anonymity ? or about decentralizing an individual and making them just a body, a vessel? it's curious....

Thanks for asking... you made me discover I deleted the meaning, lol. I think I'll add that to this piece now since it's long enough and important enough.

Ooooh! I love this! It's beautiful, I simply adore the meaning behind it. Very beautiful. I love the paint brush and the faceless sage. Namaste is such a lovely word.
