Wrapping up the semester...

Wed Dec 2, 2009, 10:38 PM
  • Mood: Questionable
  • Listening to: my roommate snoring
  • Reading: Several Aikido scholarly articles
This semester is ending in the busiest manner I could have expected.

Painting- I'm currently designing a collage that I will be turning into a painting later. I'm trying to combine several elements of things I have always found interesting.

Digital Imaging- I'm developing a "Going Green" poster. I'm trying to make it cartoonish but with a classical communication between characters. I think, despite its serious nature, it'll be enjoyable to see.

English- I have a 7 page research paper using 4 scholarly articles and a 4 page reflection paper to write.

Japanese- I have the usual stuff, though now we are writing more and more in kanji.

Mid Semester Update

Tue Oct 20, 2009, 11:06 AM
  • Mood: Exhilarated
  • Listening to: Morning Lullabies- Ingrid Michaelson
  • Reading: Star Wars LOTF- Exile
  • Drinking: water
So after I discovered that I didn't need Printmaking since I have a Painting under my belt, I dropped it. Between my other classes, running and teaching the Aikido club, and trying to get to Syracuse at least once a week to see Samantha, it was just too much. I also now have an awesome new guinea pig, Spencer. b ^_^ d

English- We're now doing a bunch of analysis's of different articles on social issues and an essay.

Painting- We're just wrapping up our latest 32"x 40" still life. I actually have a critique at 6:30. Our next project will either be a self-portrait or a narrative piece; either way it will be a similar size.

Digital Imaging- We're starting up In-Design, so I'm not too sure I'll have new stuff to post for awhile. We'll mostly be working with text, layouts and the likes. Luckily this will help me with my Aikido advertising.

Japanese 201- Not much to say there, just the same old random class. We're focusing more on Kanji and vocab. Sadly this is my final semester of Japanese, since I need to focus more on Art classes.

And so the semester begins again...

Thu Sep 3, 2009, 6:41 AM
  • Mood: Exhilarated
  • Listening to: The Beatles- Sergeant Pepper
  • Watching: VH1
Intro to Graphic Imaging- We're going to be working on a self-portrait first

Intermediate Japanese- Usual continuation of the language

English Composition- We're actually watching Akira Kurasawa's "Dreams" and writing about the episodes

Intro to Printmaking- we'll be starting off with Monotypes, though I don't know the subject yet

Painting III- Possibly a self-portrait or something else, but on a 9" x 12" canvas

My schedule is packing. On top of classes I've also got the Aikido Club, so I'm going to be living Art and Aikido with some language studies in there too. I've got a new sketch book, so I should be doodling more often.

Here's hoping I can keep up. b ^_^ d

And so the semester begins again...

The First Week Of Painting Course Is Finally Done

Yes, I did feel that deserved to be typed such, because this past week has been ridiculous (relatively). I just started a 9:30am-2:30pm (5 hour-a-day), 5 day-a-week, 3 week course up in Oswego and it's taking a lot out of me. Since it's still summer I'm commuting everyday from Syracuse which is about 45 minutes to an hour away. Standing out in the sun painting with oils (which I haven't used since Fall semester) is more wearing than the 3-4 hours-a-day of Aikido I was doing during the rest of the summer.

The plus side is that I'm making lots of pieces fast. They aren't big but you can begin to see improvement in each one. It's focus is on landscapes too, which has never really been a strength for me.

I also have a 32"x 40" piece of mat board in my Studio at home waiting to be worked on. My last series, "An Elemental Clash" is being expanded upon as soon as I can find the time to start (details are a surprise to everyone who doesn't know yet). I'm really eager to work on it since it will be a combination of everything that I have found important for many years now (everything from Aikido to Realism). Even if I can't find the time during this course to work on it, you will definitely see it before the end of the summer.

Until then, Peace!

Lach
